Farmall "H" Twins: Mike & Ike
Restored 1999 |
 |
Mike (1948) on the left, Ike (1949) on the right, as they arrived here in July, 1999. It was a round trip of 930 miles to recover each one. They were both in running condition, but very tired. They replaced the restored 1940 tricycle H that was sold a couple weeks earlier. |
 |
Ike on the left, and Mike on the right, after they received the full treatment. I found a solution to the problem with the 100" axles protruding so far ... the outside duals are much easier to see. Ike originally had the extended axles also, but someone shortened them with a torch. |
 |
Ike was painted first, but Mike got the details finished first, so they were posed with Mike in front. |
"Before" |
"After" |
| Aftermarket emblems are available for these tractors, but part of the fun and satisfaction comes from restoring the original parts too, if possible. |

1942 Case "SC"
Restored 1999 |
"Before" |
"After" |

|
| Above left is my Case "SC" before it was dismantled for restoration. The rust color is very accurate. The next pictures show the engine rebuild, the paint stage, and a closeup of the finished hood. |
|
| Above center is a 1943 magazine cover showing an "SC". In the spirit of the times, the artist painted the tractor olive drab. |

1949 Allis Chalmers "C"
Restored 1997 |
 |
 |
| The picture above to the left is of the completed restoration of the Allis Chalmers "C", and the picture to the right was taken just after re-assembly was started. |
| Just for fun, here's Roger Welsch, our very own "Captain Nebraska," a tractor friend and author of Old Tractors and the Men Who Love Them: How to Keep Your Tractor Happy and Your Family Running. He's "with" my Allis Chalmers. Hey Rog, put on yer coat! |

Where it all began?
This picture was taken about 1946 at the county fair. The urchin on the Ford Ferguson is me. This was probably the first time I had seen one up close. The photo has been copied and inserted as the first page of the owners manual for my Ford Ferguson. |

| Ford "641" |
 |
The Ford 641 is in its working clothes, much like its owner usually is, and awaits restoration. It's in good mechanical condition, except for the hydraulics. I hope to redesign the hydraulic system to make it more user friendly -- to make the loader a bit more predictable! |

| Homebrew Runabout |
This little scooter, created from an old mower, has been modified in the following ways so it can be used for transportation at tractor shows:
Basket added to carry flea market stuff, lunch, or cooler
Auto flywheel makes it run very slowly and smoothly
Pulley ratio changed to double speed
Tractor umbrella added
Bulb-type horn for safety
Cup holder for adult beverages
Grandsons have volunteered to run an intensive testing program. Adam is running his shift in this picture. |
